Letter #5
Hey guys, how's it going? Another week has already flown by, it's crazy to think that it was already over a month ago that I left home! How did your week go? Is time going by super fast or is it just me?
First I wanted to tell you guys of the expirience with prayer this week. So I hadn't been feeling very confident in my teaching abilities these past few weeks and I struggled with with remembering the doctrine and saying what I needed to say. I was feeling pretty low one morning and felt like I should say a prayer. I normally say my morning prayers but this time it was different. I just poured out everything I was feeling and asked Heavenly Father for help or comfort or anything at all. I got done, not really feeling any better but I decided that I would try to lose myself in studying the lesson plans that morning. Looking back now, that was probably the best study I've ever had. The Spirit was helping me along, even though I didn't realize it at the time.
When it got time to actually teach the lessons later that day, I found out that I actually felt confident about them and I didn't struggle at all trying to remember what to say. I could feel the Holy Ghost bringing things to my mind that I had studied earlier, things that I would not have remembered on my own. And when the people we were teaching asked questions that I hadn't directly prepared for, I still was able to think of answers to them. My prayers had definitely been answered. There's still a lot that needs worked on but I came away feeling a lot better about myself and my abilities as a missionary that day.
Another expirience I had this week was my first exchange. Exchanges are where we swap companions for a day with another companionship. We did our exchanges with the missionaries from a town called Beaver, Elder Tarin and Elder Lund. Elder Shipley traded places with Elder Lund and went up to Beaver while Elder Lund came down to Parowan with me. Since I stayed back, I was given the sim card (each companionship only gets one sim card) and was basically put in charge of the area.
It was kinda daunting, not gonna lie, to have all that responsibility after only being out for 2 weeks and once again I turned to prayer. I kinda got the That day turned out to be one of the best days I've had so far. I learned a lot and was even able to hand out my first Book of Mormon!
So long story short, the biggest lesson I learned this week is that faithful and earnest prayers WILL be answered. It's such a great blessing we have to be able to speak to our Heavenly Father and then have Him speak back to us.
Another great thing about this week was General Conference. I have never been so excited to watch Conference and listen to our prophet speak! There was so much that I felt like was directly for me. How did Conference go for you guys?
Well, it's been a great week, sorry for the late email. Can't wait to hear back from you guys!
