Letter #6
Hey everybody, how's it been?
Things have been going pretty good here, Parowan is a neat little town. There's a lot of farm ground and a lot of open space, so it feels a lot like home. The mountains are also amazing, it's been so long since I've lived by any mountains that I forgot how cool they are.
Things have been pretty chill this past week. Other than a car show and zone conference, nothing to exciting happened.
The car show was great, if any of you like classic cars as much as I do, I left some pictures down below for ya.
Zone conference is just a big meeting where all the missionaries in a certain area, or zone, get together for trainings and talk about how the work is going in their specific areas. Ours was on Tuesday this past week and we focused a lot on being bold in our interactions with other people. One scripture that we read was in Alma 38: 12 (in the Book of Mormon) and it says:
"Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness."
I'm finding that it takes a lot of faith to be bold and confident, having to put your trust in the Lord to guide you in what to say and how to act towards people in such a way that represents Christ, especially when you're not sure yourself on what to do.
And a lot of it has to do with charity, or the pure love of Christ. If we don't have this attribute in our lives, it's kinda hard to serve God or His children. While being out on the mission, even though I haven't been out for very long, I have felt an increased need to have charity. There are quite a few people out here who, putting it lightly, are very disagreeable. Sometimes it gets really hard to stay positive and not get mad back at them. Like bro, I'm trying to help you out! You should be happy to see me!
Striving to have charity as a trait has really helped with that though. We are all children of God and as you look at other people that way, it becomes way easier to love people even when they obviously don't like you.
So in short, the lesson I've been learning this week is to love your friends, your family, and even your enemies, even if you have to fake it at first. Its a struggle sometimes, but its worth it. And sorry if this all sounds cheesy but I know it's true and have felt so much better about myself and the people around me.
Anyways, this week has been great, thank you guys for sharing all the expiriences you've had, I love hearing your stories! 'Till next week!
