Letter #7
Hey guys how's it going? Sorry, I completely spaced writing an email last week, I'll try to make up for it in this one.
These past two weeks went by pretty fast and so much has happened. We've met a lot of people and some of them were kinda crazy. This one guy called himself the Parowan Prophet and his story is that a while ago he crashed his airplane and went into a coma during which he had a vision from God. He believes he saw World War III start with Russia nuking Salt Lake City by this December. (He's been saying that every year though for who knows how long). He has dedicated his life to preparing himself and other people for this war and even created a website, post cards, and other stuff advertising his preaching. He's a good person though, really he's just trying to help people and is very nice and all.
I am also getting plenty of opportunities to speak in church, I spoke once on each of these past 2 Sundays and then next Sunday I'm speaking twice! After these 3 weeks I'll have given more talks than I've given in a whole year! It's really not too bad once you get going though, I've also been using the same talk for each ward and that makes it a little easier.
One of the biggest highlights from this week happened this past Sunday morning. We woke up and everything was covered in a few inches of snow! I was really excited, it feels like its been forever since I've been in some good snow. The snow covered mountains look absolutely amazing, I've tried taking pictures for you guys but they don't do the views any justice.
The missionary work has been going pretty good, we've had a couple people make some good progress. It's amazing to see how much joy the gospel and a knowledge of Christ brings into people's lives. On the other hand its crazy to see how hard Satan will work on these people. As soon as they start making progress, all sorts of stuff will go wrong in their lives. I won't go into detail but it's just a lot of small stuff that just builds up and gets to be almost overwhelming.
I can testify that the Lord is always willing to help though, and I've felt that in my own life and witnessed it in the lives of others. Watching these people strive to come closer despite their challenges and hear them share their own feelings about how they've felt His divine assistance has been a humbling expirience.
Transfers are also in a few days (a transfer is a 6 week period, at the end of the 6 weeks is when they'll shuffle the missionaries around and make changes to the mission) but the only thing that is changing for me really is our district. We were with some Spanish elders before but now they put us in an all English district, which is nice, now I'll be able to understand what's going on in our district meetings a little better. I'm staying in the same area with the same companion which is also good because I feel like I just got adjusted to the Parowan area.
Well that's about it, again I'm sorry for not writing last week but I'm looking forward to your emails! Have a great week!
