Letter #29

Hey everybody, what's goin' on? Honestly I've had some trouble thinking of what I want to write about, the work has been a little slow here in Kanab at the moment, this week went spent a lot of time just cleaning up the area. We dropped quite a few people that we're just not progressing, went through a lot of contacts with people who we've had on our records for a long time that possibly had some potential but were just not quite ready, and just basically started over on our area.

Now that we're getting that stuff out of the way hopefully things will start picking up again. Spring and summer should also bring a lot of people to Kanab so looking forward to that!

This week was kinda exhausting but it was fun as well, we had some of the most wack lessons with people this week. I probably shouldn't share the details but just know they were some interesting lessons. One was with a part member family, the mom and the kids are less active members and the husband is not, but near the end of the lesson I was able to talk to him one on one while Elder Brown talked with the rest of the family. He has a lot of history with the church and he said the reason he doesn't want to join right now is because of hypocrisy.

He said he sees a lot of it in the world and doesn't want to become one himself when he isn't 100% committed to living all of the precepts taught by the Church (now there is more to it than that, but I can't explain it very well). So I asked the question, "Well, if you knew for a fact that it was true, would you be willing to change to live in such a way that Christ's gospel teaches?" (That was paraphrased, I can't remember exactly what I said) After I asked that, I guess it caught him off guard or something because he sat there for like 15 seconds pondering over it. He finally answered saying "that's a really good question, I need to think on that" Long story short, he said he'd love to talk to us again so we are planning on coming back Saturday.

Now I can't really convey the spirit that was present there in this email, but looking back, that was such a cool moment. Ever since then, the thought has been coming up how would I respond if I was the one getting asked that question? In my studies of the Book of Mormon this week, I read over the story of Alma the younger's conversion story. He, being very wicked, had to change quite a bit to become the prophet that he did. We learn that it wasn't easy for him, but he was willing because he knew it was true.

Alma became an amazing person, and we can to in the way God needs us to be. That is our purpose here on earth, and all we need is an open mind and a willing heart. Everything else will come on top of that.

That is my testimony, along with my witness that the Book of Mormon is a divine witness with Christ. Read it!! Ponder it!! I know that you can come to the same conclusion! I know that God is a God of miralces and His Son, Jesus Christ, offers Salvation to all.

Have a great week, you guys are amazing!
