Letter #43
This past week has been the BUSIEST week of the mission yet, and being a District Leader is only a third of it.
Gunnison is awesome! The last missionaries left us with 23 friends in our teaching pool and dozens more as potential friends, that's a lot of people to keep track of, especially since both me and Elder Speed are new to this area! We have yet to even meet with them all!
This by far has been the most successful area I've been in so far with all that's going on and honestly it's been a little hard to keep up. But you know what? It's awesome! I know that this transfer I'm going to learn A LOT.
23 friends is more people than I can write about at the moment so I'm just going to tell you of a few of the highest potential ones: Nakelle is an 11 year old girl and she worked a lot with the previous missionaries, she actually just got baptized last saturday, 3 days after I got into the area!
Braxton will be 13 as of Tuesday and he wants to get baptized, he had a strong belief in God and knows that baptism is something God wants him to do. He's working on a few things right now and hopefully he'll be ready soon!
Danielle is a middle aged lady and she also has a desire to get baptized, the only thing that's holding her back is her smoking habit which she has been wanting to get rid of for years. She's amazing, she's got some tough life situations but she's tough and wants to try her hardest
The rest of our teaching pool is mostly kids and it's been fun getting to work with them and their families. Oh, and another cool thing, in Gunnison there is a guy named Kent Dyreng and he's one-of-a-kind. He's the most red-neck person you'll ever meet. He loves farming, fishing, overalls, tannerite, etc. I actually hit my year mark today and the missionary tradition is to burn a shirt. Well with kent we took it a step further and blew it up with his home-made tannerite! It was awesome!
He also lives missionary work! Honestly most of the success in this area is because of him. He knows everybody and everybody knows him and he's not afraid to knock on any door and talk to you about the gospel.
Anyways! Life is good! Jesus is the Christ!
